Eddie Izzard joins cast of Broadway production

Eddie Izzard is switching gears from self-deprecating comedian to drama actor for the Broadway production Race.

Izzard, a Tony Award nominee, is joined by fellow actors Dennis Haysbert, AFton C. Williamson, Richard Thomas and director David Mamet. Race will run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New York City from June 21 to Aug. 21.

Eddie Izzard touring U.S., then heading to South Africa

Eddie Izzard’s world tour has brought him to the U.S. in January, including a stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden. He will also perform in Dallas, Texas, and a few stops in California before the month is through.

In early February, he will take the stage at The Mandela Theater to benefit Nelson Mandela’s 46664 campaign in South Africa.

February 11, 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela walking free after 27 years of incarceration, and Mandela is bringing performers together in hopes of raising money for his charities.

Stinky shoes, but fresh material!

Eddie Izzard — cross-dressing comedian turned serious runner– has done it! He’s run 43 consecutive marathons in 51 days since July, and all for charity.

According to the BBC, the English comedian ran at least 27 miles per day, six days a week, and covered more than 1,100 miles in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Izzard is running to raise money for Sport Relief, a subsidiary of Comic Relief that supports projects in Africa, the UK and around the world.

Izzard has plans to start a new stand-up tour in early 2010 - I can smell fresh material coming from this marathon adventure! He’ll surely tap into the pleasure and pain of this effort to share his signature brand of funny stories with his fans.

Comedian running for a cause

Cross dressing comic Eddie Izzard may not be looking too hot in his high heels as of late. But it’s not because he needs a new pedicure; it’s because he’s been in 43 consecutive marathons since July.

Izzard, who ran in the marathons for charity, was logged for running at least 27 miles a day for six days a week, totaling more than 1,110 miles. To put that in perspective, that’s like running from New York City to Memphis, Tennessee (though for most comedians it’s the other way around!)

The charity-conscious comic has been sporting blistered, bandaged feet, not to mention a sore ankle and a few missing toenails. Ouch!
